Social Integrity

For Brown-Forman, practicing social integrity has many different facets. We are dedicated to promoting our brands responsibly, listening to our stakeholders, and demonstrating a commitment to diversity and inclusion across the company.

Consumed responsibly, our beverage alcohol brands add enjoyment and enrichment to consumers' lives. When misused, beverage alcohol can be destructive to individuals and others around them. Alcohol abuse and misuse is bad for consumers, society, and our business. We all have a vested interest in promoting responsible consumption, and Brown-Forman is committed to do its part.

Industry Leadership

In 1933, Owsley Brown, chairman of the Brown-Forman board of directors, helped start what is today the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS). DISCUS is the national trade association representing producers and marketers of distilled spirits sold in the United States. DISCUS members, including Brown-Forman, have developed a code of advertising and marketing responsible practices to provide guidance to all those involved in the promotion of their respective brands. The overriding principle of the code is to market beverage alcohol products to adults in a responsible and appropriate manner.

We and several other beverage alcohol producers take a prominent role in encouraging responsible consumption of our products and in warning consumers against alcohol abuse.

We have an extensive portfolio of brands that are known around the world for their quality and heritage. We believe that with this popularity comes a responsibility to acknowledge the problems that can arise from irresponsible or illegal use.

You can access the DISCUS Semi-Annual Code Review report on their web site.
