Brown-Forman Elects Three Fifth Generation Brown Family Members to its Board of Directors

Louisville, KY, March 24, 2006 — Brown-Forman Corporation announced today that its Board of Directors has elected Sandra Frazier, Martin S. Brown, Jr., and Geo. Garvin Brown IV to become directors of the company, effective May 8. All three are descendants of George Garvin Brown, who founded Brown-Forman in 1870, and they are the first members of the family’s fifth generation to join the company’s board. The Brown family controls a majority of the voting stock of the company.

The election of Sandra Frazier, Martin Brown and Garvin Brown represents a thoughtful evolution of Brown family representation on Brown-Forman’s board. As part of this evolution, three members of the fourth generation of the Brown family will soon be retiring from the Board:

– Owsley Brown Frazier, the company’s former vice chairman, who is reaching mandatory retirement age for directors. Mr. Frazier was a long-time employee of the company, serving in a variety of important roles, and is a noted philanthropist;

– Geo. Garvin Brown III, who has served for many years as a director during a period when the company grew from a small, Bourbon whisky company into an international concern with the best selling whiskey brand in the world, Jack Daniel’s; and

– Ina Brown Bond, who has served on the Board during an important time of transition, as the company elected a non-family member, Paul Varga, to be CEO, and reported record earnings. Ms. Bond is chairperson of the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville.

“We are truly grateful to each of these directors for the guidance and wisdom they have given Brown-Forman in their years of valuable service and we look forward to continuing to receive their support and advice in less formal ways in the future,” stated Brown-Forman Chairman Owsley Brown II.

“We’re delighted that Sandra, Martin, and Garvin will begin service on our Board, as they will bring new insights and energy while deepening the relationship between the company and younger generations of the Brown family,” Brown said.

Sandra Frazier is a founding partner of Tandem Public Relations, LLC of Louisville, Ky. She earned a master’s degree from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from Hollins College.

Martin S. Brown, Jr. is a partner in the law firm of Adams and Reese, LLP in Nashville, TN. He received his law degree from Vanderbilt University and bachelor’s degree from Yale University.

Geo. Garvin Brown IV works for Brown-Forman and is vice president and Jack Daniel’s brand director for Europe, Africa, and Eurasia. He holds master’s degrees from the London Business School and the University of British Columbia and a bachelor’s degree from McGill University.

Brown-Forman Corporation is a diversified producer and marketer of fine quality consumer products, including Jack Daniel’s, Southern Comfort, Finlandia Vodka, Canadian Mist, Fetzer and Bolla Wines, Korbel California Champagnes, and Hartmann Luggage.
