Quest for the Cup: Bartenders Participate in International Bartending Competition
February 20, 2006, Helsinki, Finland — An ice castle in the arctic homeland of Finlandia Vodka served as center stage for the brand’s international cocktail competition. The eighth annual International Finlandia Vodka Cup took place recently in Lapland, Finland-bringing together top bartenders from around the world to showcase the signature drinks that have brought the golden age of cocktails back to life.
Thousands of contestants participated in local competitions to become one of only 19 bartenders from around the world that made it to the finals in Lapland.
The bartenders were judged on the art, style and craft behind creative cocktailing as judges searched for the world’s best aperitif, long drink and after dinner drink. Every cocktail a bartender created must be a new and original recipe based on Finlandia Vodka, or a member of its flavor family: Cranberry Fusion, Lime Fusion, Mango Fusion, or Wild Berries Fusion.
Helsinki bartender Jan Lindgren won the final competition with his recipe for a Blueberry Blues cocktail. Aleksander Stipic from Belgrase, Serbia & Montenegro finished second, followed by Yaroslav Vladimirovich Panov from St. Petersburg, Russia in third.
Other countries sending bartenders to participate in the competition included Italy, Slovenia, Poland, Greece, Israel, United Kingdom, Ireland, Belarus, Latvia, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and the United States.
